The social network Facebook gives its users the possibility to engage in groups with special audiences. An effective communication and collaboration may result in these groups. Facebook groups are thus more than a simple collection of people for idle chatter. In these groups real user engagement may evolve. The groups in Facebook served as the foundation for the Google Plus circles. Like the circles in Google Plus the groups in Facebook are platforms for improving focus, increasing collaboration and encouraging relationships around special interests and purposes. Stronger bonds between the users may result.
Facebook groups need a strong leadership and direction
But leading a group in Facebook needs a clear direction and strong handling. It may happen that the “herd” might follow you for a moment and then suddenly lose the interest to engage or will move in a different direction. Launching a successful Facebook group is an art. A few essential points should be obeyed that preserve the group and to attract new members:
1.) Choose a meaningful title for the group
Without a memorable name that is impressive and striking the group will fail right from the beginning on. People have to combine a special emotion with the name. If the name of your group is boring or common people will assume that the group is boring, too.
2) Choose a profile pic that captures the essence of your group
A picture speaks a thousand words and with the right image in the group header you may accentuate your group. Choose a striking picture and use photoshop to add some text to the picture. Or you leave the standard profile in the group header that shows the photos of the group members as a sequence.
3.) Hand select the group members
Choose the people who you want to be in the group carefully or send them personal invitations. Make them feel special. You need to choose people who are dynamic on Facebook or Twitter, people who are famous, people who have huge followings, people who have large networks and people who are already experts and leaders within your niche. Having these people as initial members instantly gives your group credibility. Honor those who first join by making them administrators, too.
4.) Add content of value to the group
Stimulate activity in the group and continue to supply fresh content on a regular basis. Focus on good content and postings with an additional value for the members. Thus you encourage the group members to do this in the same way. Your group will become a valuable resource instead of a platform for spammers.
In focussing these points you may lead your group to success and to coherence. The members beginn to trust you and the others more and more. And this trust will strengthen the group. The group members get more and more familiar. They are getting more social and real. Each may profit from the others. Collaboration may be possible in real life.
Facebook groups should thus not be neglected in their value that they may offer.
Make use of these platforms of trust! Don’t miss this chance!
